A body fat chart is a great tool for more than just an indication of your health and nutrition status. However, a body fat chart won't tell you how to measure yourself in order to use the body fat chart. Body fat is the single most important bit of information you need in order to attain the best physical condition for your age. Armed with your true body fat you will know how to exercise properly in order to succeed in your goals - whatever they may be to you.
Let's be clear and honest. You are not trying to lose "weight". You want to lose body fat. Unless you are clear in your goal your success is destined to fail. The reason body fat is such a priority is because if you do not know how to burn body fat you will be burning muscle - the muscle you want to keep in order to look great.
Body fat is burned most efficiently by what type of exercise? Body fat is used
as energy most often when the heart rate is about 65% of your maximum heart rate. You
maximum heart rate (MHR) calculation is: 220 minus your age multiplied by 65% (EX: 220 - 35 x
65% = 120 beats per minute). Therefore, it makes no difference what exercise you
perform. The key is to monitor your heart rate.
The word "diet" has been used and abused for far too long and the results of all the books on the subject that are simply saying the same information, just a bit differently, are proven by the condition of nearly 40% of the U.S. population - fat! Recent statistics have shown that at least 34% of the U.S. population is fat. Typical "diets" do not work. Reducing your calories does not work. If you doubt this information re-read the first sentence in this paragraph.
What does work? Eating correctly every day by assuring you get enough calories for your body to perform at its peak. If your diet includes eating at least 2,000 calories daily then your body will be happy to provide energy and burn fat. But, if you insist on lowering your calories your body will continue to create fat because it will do whatever it must in order to 'survive'. Your body is trying to survive - that's what getting fat is all about.
The general population believes that fat is a result of 'over' eating. Science has
proven time and time again that if you are not eating enough food daily your body
stores everything you eat. "Storage" for your body is fat. Starve your body - get fat. It's
just that simple.
